Audio to SRT, explained
From an audio file to timed subtitles
An SRT file is a plain-text list of subtitles, each with a number, a start time, an end time and the words to show. To make one from audio, Corbeia transcribes the recording with AI, keeps the timestamp of every word, and groups the words into short lines that are easy to read on screen.
1 00:00:01,200 --> 00:00:03,900 Welcome back to the show. 2 00:00:04,100 --> 00:00:07,300 Today we're talking about sleep.
MP3 to SRT
MP3 is the most common audio file there is, and it converts the same way as any other: drop it in, generate, download. The SRT lines up with the MP3 from the first second, so if the MP3 is the soundtrack of your video, the subtitles line up with the video too.
When an audio to SRT converter is the right tool
- Podcast video and audiograms โ add captions to the clips you post on social media.
- Separately recorded voice-over โ subtitle the voice track before it is mixed into the edit.
- Large video projects โ export just the audio from your editor; it's much smaller than the video.
- Courses and audiobooks โ offer captions for listeners who prefer to read along.
Using the SRT file
Import it into Premiere Pro (File โ Import), DaVinci Resolve (drag it onto the timeline), Final Cut Pro or CapCut, or upload it to YouTube Studio under Subtitles. Need WebVTT for a web player? The VTT file is included. Starting from a video file instead? Use the MP4 to SRT converter.

Audio to SRT FAQ
How do I convert audio to SRT?
Drop the audio file into the converter above and click Generate subtitles. AI transcribes the speech and times every line, then you download a ready-to-use .srt file.
How do I convert MP3 to SRT?
The same way: drop the MP3 in and generate. MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG and FLAC all work.
Is the audio to SRT converter free?
Yes โ free and unlimited, with no sign-up and no limit on length.
Why make an SRT from audio instead of the video?
Audio files are smaller and decode faster. If your editor exports the voice track or you recorded sound separately, convert that, then add the SRT to your video in Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut or CapCut.
Can I use the SRT for lyrics or a podcast?
Yes. Podcasters use SRT files for video versions of episodes and for audiograms. For songs, results depend on how clearly the vocals stand out from the music.
Is the timing accurate?
Each subtitle line is timed to the speech using word-level timestamps, then split into short, readable lines.
Can I get a translated SRT?
Yes. Pick a language under Translate to and you also get a translated SRT and a bilingual SRT.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser. Your audio never leaves your computer.
