Subtitle translation, explained
Translate SRT subtitle files online
A subtitle translator takes an existing subtitle file and rewrites every line in another language while keeping the numbers and timestamps exactly as they were. The translated SRT plays in sync with the same video, so you can add it to YouTube, load it in VLC or import it into your editor right away.

name.bilingual.srt | Original and translation together โ language learning, checking a translation |
Who uses an SRT translator
- YouTubers and course creators โ upload captions in several languages to reach more viewers.
- Movie and series watchers โ translate subtitles that only exist in another language.
- Language learners โ bilingual subtitles show both languages line by line.
- Teams โ localize training and product videos without re-timing anything.
Tips for better subtitle translations
- Translation works line by line, so subtitles that end mid-sentence can read a little stiffly. Read through the file before you publish it.
- Check names, brand names and slang โ machine translation sometimes translates names literally.
- Keep the original file. If you edit the original later, translate it again rather than editing two files.

If you only have the video, the free subtitle generator transcribes it with AI and translates the subtitles in one go. Need a different format afterwards? Use SRT to VTT or VTT to SRT.
