From an MP4 file to a text file
MP4 is the most common video format there is — it's what phones record, what screen recorders save and what video editors export. An MP4 file holds a video track and an audio track. MP4 to transcript: transcribe MP4 files with AI
A transcript is the full text of what was said in the video, written out in paragraphs you can read top to bottom. When you transcribe an MP4 here, the transcript is the main result: download it as TXT, paste it into a doc, or save it as Markdown. If you also need to know when each sentence was said, the SRT file from the same run has a timestamp for every line.
Tips for the most accurate MP4 transcription
- Use the original file rather than a re-compressed copy.
- Recordings with one speaker at a time and little background music transcribe best.
- If you know the spoken language, select it instead of auto-detect for short clips.
- Choose High accuracy for interviews and lectures; Fast is fine for clear, simple speech.
How long does MP4 to text take?
It depends on your computer, not on a server queue. On a laptop or desktop with a reasonably recent graphics card, Chrome and Edge transcribe several minutes of audio per minute; without one, the processor does the work and it takes longer. The progress bar shows how far along it is and roughly how long is left, and long files are saved as they go, so closing the tab doesn't lose the work done so far.
